Lamar County Indigent Healthcare Director and County Treasurer, Shirley Fults, chose Indigent Healthcare Solutions (IHS) to replace the DOS based software used by Lamar County since the late 1980’s. In a Commissioners Court meeting, Mrs. Fults told the Court, “The software we now have is outdated. It needs to be thrown out the window”. Lamar County IT Director, Joel Witherspoon, echoed Mrs. Fults’ suggestion telling the Court that the DOS based software is so antiquated that new computer hardware the county uses no longer recognizes many of the DOS commands. The Commissioners Court voted unanimously to approve the state-of-the-art system offered by IHS and it was implemented in October2013.
